About me

Thank you for visiting my website! I’m Laurie Kelly, Fitness & Nutrition Coach and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).

Why “dragonfly?” Because the dragonfly is a symbol of change and transformation – exactly what I want to help others achieve.

I understand your challenges in work/life balance, dealing with stress, managing time effectively and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, because I’ve faced them all myself. I know what it feels like to be in midlife, to go through menopause, and how intimidating and overwhelming it can be to get started on a path to a healthy lifestyle. In today’s world we’re bombarded with information about this or that workout, diet, or fitness fad that promises quick and easy results. I want to help you tune out all the noise, and focus in on what is right for you. Read more about my philosophy of training, health and wellness here.

A little about me…I was born at the very end of the Baby Boomer generation (so you can guess my age!) I had a 35-year career in the corporate world – as a CPA, followed by accounting and management roles for several large life insurance companies. Then I entered the banking industry, where I developed and managed the anti-money laundering and anti-fraud programs for a $150+ billion bank.

When I hit my late thirties, I was 40 pounds overweight, tired, stressed out, and frustrated about how I felt and looked. At age 38, I finally decided I’d had enough – and set out on a journey to become fit and healthy. I joined a weight loss program, and I started exercising: aerobics, step aerobics, strength training, and yoga. The pounds started coming off and I loved how my body was becoming leaner and stronger. After about nine months, the high impact aerobics took their toll, so I switched it out for a new exercise format that was growing in popularity: indoor cycling, aka “spinning.”

I loved the indoor cycling ~ and after a winter of doing that, I bought a bike and tried riding outside. That developed into a real love of cycling.

At age 42, I was feeling better than I ever had in my entire life. Then a good friend asked me to participate in a sprint triathlon with her. She hired a coach, I trained myself, and we both completed the race. Once was enough for her – but I was hooked! This love of triathlon has carried on through competing in 47 events over the last 18 years.

When I retired from the corporate world and “financial crime fighting,” I decided I wanted to help others – especially those in my age group – become stronger and healthier. After a year of in-depth study and becoming certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Dragonfly Fitness and Nutrition Coaching was born.

When COVID-19 hit in March of 2020, I pivoted my in-person coaching to virtual and online formats. My clients love it, and so do I ~ because it allows me to offer so much more, and to help many more people, than I could in-person.

After almost 30 years of practicing yoga, I embarked on a journey to become full-fledged yoga instructor. I completed my 200-hour teacher training in January 2023, and am now a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). The impact that yoga has had on my mindset, my fitness, and overall health has been tremendous, and I’m excited to share this with others.
